Artist's Biography, Steven Bloom
Born in San Mateo, California, the eldest of four children. I was
interested in art by age four. I won my first art competition at age
nine in the San Francisco Chronicle’s weekly children's art contest and again
at age eleven. From then on, I never lost my passion for art,
drawing and painting informally until high school. As a freshman at a high
school in San Jose, I was initially influenced by art
teacher Jean Ward, who was an intense and innovative instructor who taught
me to be passionate about art. At Cal State University, Sacramento, I was
fortunate to study under renowned artists and professors Joan Moment, Jack Ogden and James Suzuki,
who each shaped my development as an artist. I earned a
Bachelor’s Degree in Art at CSUS in 1977. I was influenced by
the Impressionistic and Realist Movements and combined the two, creating
my own
style.
